Thai Rice رز تايلندي


This dish is prepared by cooking white or brown rice in coconut milk with coconut oil
Coconut milk is a popular food ingredient used in Latin America, South Asia, Southern China, and the Caribbean
I called this dish Thai rice as I love Thai food, it can be called coconut rice or Indian rice or Caribbean rice as well.

This side dish works perfectly with the fish with coconut milk dish posted earlier or with the chicken sweet and sour dish posted earlier as well, also it can work as a main dish if we added chicken with the veggies during cooking the rice.

Ingredients: المقادير

  • 1 1/2 cup basmati rice كوب و نصف رز بسمتي
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced  ١ بصلة متوسطة
  • ¾ cup of mixed bell pepper  ٣/٤ كوب فلفل الوان
  • 1/2 cup pees  ١/٢كوب بسلة
  • ½ teaspoon fresh grated ginger + 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder  ١/٢ م ص جنزبيل فريش مبشور+ ١/٢ م ص ثوم بودرة
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder ١ م ص كاري
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric ١/٢ م ص كركم
  • 4 cloves  ٤ قرنفل
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon  ١/٤ م ص قرفة
  • Pinch of cumin   رشة كمون
  • 1 1/3 cup light coconut milk  كوب و تلت لبن جوز هند لايت
  •  1 cup water   كوب مياة
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil  ٢ م كبيرة زيت جوز هند
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish  كسبرة فريش للتزيين
  • Salt and pepper  ملح و فلفل


First what to prepare: للتجهيز
Rinse basmati rice very well in water till the water runs clear of the starch. soak the rice in enough water for 20 minutes. Then drain the rice and keep aside.
يغسل الرز جيدا و ينقع في مياة لمدة ٢٠ دقيقة

Prepare the veggies and onions by chopping them. And grate the ginger
يقطع الفلفل و البصل و يبشر الجنزبيل

Method: الطريقة
Heat 2 tbsp oil in a rice pan and add those spices: 4 cloves, cinnamon, cumin along with the sliced onions, turmeric and curry powder, stir very well.
نضع زيت جوز الهند في طاسة و نضيف القرنفل و الكمون و القرفة ثم البصل و الكركم و الكاري و يقلب

Add the crushed ginger and garlic, stir and sauté for a second.
نضيف الجنزبيل و الثوم و يقلب لثواني

Add ¾ cup of mixed bell pepper and the pees
نضيف الفلفل الألوان و البسلة

Sauté the veggies for a minute.
نقلب الخضار مع البصل

Add your rice, mix with the rest of the ingredients.
نضيف الرز و نقلب

Add 1 1/3 cup light coconut milk and 2 cups water, stir well.
نضيف لبن جوز الهند اللايت و المياة

Season with salt and pepper, then cover and cook.
نضيف الملح و الفلفل و يغطى

Garnish with some chopped coriander when serving
